Description
Hepatitis B is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), which causes inflammation and enlargement of the liver.
The virus is spread through contact with blood or other body fluids from an infected person.
Infections can vary from a mild form that lasts a few weeks to a more serious (chronic) infection that can cause lasting liver damage.
Symptoms can include:
- feeling sick or being sick
- lack of appetite
- flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, tiredness and general aches & pains
- yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice)
This test measures the level of protection you have against the hepatitis B virus, following a course of vaccinations.
As well as understanding your level of protection against the hepatitis B virus, this test also helps you make an informed decision about whether or not you require further vaccinations.
