Description
For this extremely simple test, cheek swabs are rubbed quickly and painlessly on the inside of the cheek to collect DNA from each person taking part in the test (alleged mother and child).
The DNA samples are analysed and compared to determine whether or not the individuals share enough DNA to verify a biological relationship.
A maternity DNA test can be useful in several situations, including:
- When a child is conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and the parent(s) would like to confirm that the correct embryo was implanted in the woman’s uterus
- When an adopted child and mother are reunited after years of separation and would like to confirm their biological relationship
- When there are concerns that baby switching has mistakenly occurred within a hospital
This test is for peace of mind – If you require a test for Legal proceedings you will need a Legal DNA test – Please see our Legal DNA Test section.
ALL SAMPLES ARE TESTED IN THE UK BY A UKAS AND MINISTRY OF JUSTICE ACCREDITED LABORATORY
